Worked All Little Chef Awards

Background

The Worked All Little Chef Awards was created in order to promote ham radio mobile operation, to develop a better knowledge of the Little Chef company and its menu and to help radio amateurs develop a better knowledge of United Kingdom road network. The award is free of charge and certificates may be issued. What? You want a piece of paper? Oh, all right; a downloadable PDF will be available on request. OK?

Objective

The awards will reward both those who operate, and those who successfully work stations operating from Little Chef restaurants and car parks. There are currently 174 Little Chefs in the UK; all Little Chefs have a name, which shall be used as the identifier for these awards. The full list of Little Chef restaurants is here http://www.littlechef.co.uk/downloads/satnav/littlechef-20091117.csv and can be used as a reference list. Note that operation from an on-ramp, or any un-metalled surface will not be counted as operation from the car park. Only operation from the tarmac metalled surface of the car park will be eligible. Where the car park is shared with another establishment, the entire car park will be eligible. Bonus points are available for operations from within the Little Chef restaurant itself. In-restaurant operation must take place from a Little Chef owned table and chair combination within the restaurant during opening hours. Food does not necessarily have to be purchased or consumed.

Awards

Awards will be available for making amateur radio contact (a QSO) with or from Little Chef restaurants and car parks on any amateur radio band in the following categories:

For those at home:

One point is awarded for making a QSO with a station in a Little Chef car park.

Two points are awarded for a QSO with a station within a Little Chef restaurant.

For those who travel:

One point is awarded for making a QSO from a Little Chef car park.

Two points are awarded for a QSO from within a Little Chef restaurant.

Awards are available as follows:

Bronze: 10 points

Silver: 25 points

Gold: 50 points

Platinum: 150 points

Further 25 point extensions will be awarded a Diamond endorsement.

Awards may be endorsed for all CW, SSB, Single Band, etc. Contacts may be made from any station location, during any span of time, and using any callsigns issued to you by a licensing authority. SWLs may also apply.

Applications

Award applications should be sent to stewart@gm4aff.net and must consist of a log extract showing QSO date, time, callsign and mode along with the associated Little Chef restaurant reference number. Whilst the award is made in the spirit of amateur radio goodwill and honesty, we would hope that no one took advantage of our lack of QSO or Little Chef placement verification. We may carry out a check questionnaire which can involve confirming the existence of an external mains electricity blue plug (as used for grass cutting, etc), description of crockery or place-mats, or some other random check to verify the visit.
